MSI Wind sees silent recall, shipping delays caused by ripped DVD’s
This story is a little sketchy at best, but it seems that some of the team behind the MSI Wind may have been doing a little playing around during the process of building out the disk image. According to the details, some of the initial shipping delays that we saw with the Wind were caused by the fact that screener copies of movies along with some personal family photos found their way onto the netbooks. According to the reports the hidden files are “mostly corrupt” and need some extra effort in order to be played or viewed. Still playable or not, movies can take up a decent amount of space, anyone with an MSI Wind may want to do some digging around and check for some large files. Bill Gates, Jerry Seinfeld Microsoft ad is all about nothing

Bill Gates, Jerry Seinfeld Microsoft ad is all about nothing
Microsoft has invested about $300 million dollars in a new advertising campaign featuring comic legend Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, but their first foray, which aired September 4th, is questionable at best.  The ad features Jerry Seinfeld going to a store known as Shoe Circus, which is presumably not a real place of business.  He happens to meet Bill Gates there, and helps him try on shoes.  That’s about it.  The only mention of a product is at the end, where Jerry suggests that Bill make computers out of cake so we can “eat while we work”.  I’m still waiting for the punchline, or at least one funnier than that.  I guess I should expect such material from Seinfeld, whose self-titled show was, as he said, “a show about nothing”.  Usually shows lacked any sense of moral theme, and if there was one, it was subtle.  I suppose the subtle theme of this ad is that Microsoft listens to everyone’s opinions, no matter how stupid they are.  Of course, Seinfeld took a while before it worked.  The first episode was considered “weak” by NBC reviewers, but it was a phenomenon by the time it said goodbye.  Perhaps these commercials will get better with age.  Via [TechCrunch] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! Smart car gets 50% off parking rates

Written by admin on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Hate parking in NYC?  Me too.  Smart has worked a deal for their diminutive Smart Fortwo with specific parking garages in the Big Apple getting them much cheaper rates.  And it is not out-of-the-way parking garages either.  The list includes Madison Square Garden, Javits Center, Times Square and Upper East Side; all places you want to be.

The garages knock 50% off the rates, bringing the payment from “you’ve got to be frickin kidding me” to merely “wow, thats a rip off”.  New York, like most cities, is renown for its high parking prices.  Personally, I think it is fantastic that smaller cars get a better rate than say a pimped Escolade with 22” wheels.

So far this year, Smart has delivered over 16,000 of their Euro-inspired Fortwo.  The announced 2009 model makes some small changes and adds two new colors to the line up: Rally Red and Metallic Grey.

Intel hoping to get Larrabee within next-gen Xbox?

Intel hoping to get Larrabee within next-gen Xbox?
by Darren Murph, posted Sep 6th 2008 at 7:50AMQuite honestly, there’s absolutely zero proof that Intel and Microsoft are yapping it up in regard to Larrabee, but considering just how logical it sounds, we couldn’t help but pass along the latest whispers surrounding the two. According to those fabled “industry insiders,” The Inquirer has it that Intel is currently on bended knee asking Microsoft to integrate Larrabee into the next-generation Xbox. If it were to land such a deal, developers would — in essence — be forced to develop for Larrabee given the need for console titles, which could then make things all the easier for Intel on the PC side. Windows Gurus to infiltrate retail stores, tell you why Vista rules
by Darren Murph, posted Sep 6th 2008 at 11:57AM In case you missed the completely baffling Gates / Seinfeld ad, here’s the skinny: Microsoft is getting serious about polishing the tarnished Vista brand (it’s words, not ours). According to new reports, that aforementioned spot is just the beginning of Redmond’s costly push to “change consumers’ perception of Windows,” and soon you’ll be seeing Microsoft Gurus in your favorite B&M locations. These so-called experts will be there to “explain the benefits of Windows,” but we’re not sure if they’ll only be around to answer inquiries or if they’ll be actively approaching you in an uncomfortable attempt to talk about Aero and ReadyBoost. BlackBerry Bold Now On Vodafone UK
Vodafone UK has announced that it’s currently offering the blackberry Bold for free on a £35 ($62) plan with 600 minutes of talk time, and 500MB of monthly data, all tied to a two-year contract. Anything free is good, so expect to see lots of people snapping up this phone, though they’d probably still get it even if it were more expensive anyways.
