As you probably already know, Intel’s Developer Forum is running this week from the 19th to the 21st at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. While IDF is always a big deal for processor geeks, this time it’s particularly important thanks to a number of developments at Intel that are finally starting to arrive.

  • Intel’s SSDs
Everyone has been talking about Intel’s SSDs lately, thanks not only to the expectations of high performance but also affordable prices (on some models). Laptop Mag got some hand-on time with the SSDs and gave us the lowdown. Two drives, the 1.8-inch X18-M and 2.5-inch X25-M, are slated to arrive within the next month, both of which use MLC technology but still promise serious performance. We should see these at 80 and 160GB capacities. Intel will also be releasing “Extreme” models, the X18-E and X25-E. These will be SLC drives in 32 and 64GB, that will have the same read performance as the consumer models, but improved write speeds.
  • More Nehalem Details
As expected we are learning more about Nehalem (Core i7) at IDF. TGDaily is reporting on a 6-core Dunnington called the Xeon X7460 as well as some other variations of the architecture.
  • Sneak Peak of MIDs
MIDs are big at IDF also. Intel is still pushing Atom quite hard and even though it’s been out for a month or two we will be seeing a lot more of it soon. This means dual-core Atom processors, Atom on new platforms, and so on.
  • Day One Summary
A number of sites are live blogging and posting summaries so you should be able to get all the information you want. UMPC Portal is focusing on the mobility aspects of the event while other sites are looking at the keynote or desktop products, so you can read who you want to get the scoop.

For continued coverage you can follow the IDF press room or Intel’s IDF blogs.
