Eee PC 901 gets unboxed and examined
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 2:53PM ASUS’s new Eee PC 901 has already gone before the cameras at Computex, but if you’re the type that’s just not satisfied ’till you something unboxed you may want to head on over to Laptop Magazine, which has not only done the usual honors but provided a few initial impressions as well. On the whole, they seem to think it’s a worthwhile upgrade, with the extra keys across the top a particularly welcome addition, although they did have some slight problems with the keyboard, which they ultimately wound up prying off in order to fix. If only Mark Ecko had a Wiispray when he was developing Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, perhaps people the world would have understood his vision for a videogame-based, graffiti-tagging urban dystopian angst. Anyway, this Wii Remote turned into a spray can is the product of a student’s thesis at Bauhas-University in Weimar, Germany. Martin Lihs crammed the controller into the can-like structure and plans (hopes?) to create a communal — but not illegal — virtual graffiti wall in which people can add their digital tags and keep it real clean, yo. Duke Nukem Forever footage on Jace Hall premiere

Written by admin on Friday, June 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

It is the game that has become the longest running industry joke since Daikatana. The game that after 12 years of well-publicized delays and disappearance was considered to surely be vaporware. The game is, of course, Duke Nukem Forever by 3DRealms, but the world is finally seeing some proof of its existence.

On the premiere episode of Jace Hall’s new gaming show on Crackle, viewers got to see Jace play Duke Nukem Forever for a couple minutes, and while the footage was brief, it actually looked pretty good, graphically at least.

Google Maps for mobile updated to version 2.2; features transit directions
Google has just made available version 2.2 of its useful Google Maps for mobile application. Adding to the previously introduced public transportation for San Francisco is a new feature which lets users get transit directions all in the same place, similar to the web-based Google Maps. It has even expanded its coverage to include Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver as well as over 40 other cities across the US. Additionally, version 2.2 lets users find the last transit trips of the day in covered cities. This comes in handy for users who rely on public transit, since they can easily schedule their activities at night. Likewise, users can also view earlier trips made by public transit. Smartphones now a greater security risk than laptops

Smartphones now a greater security risk than laptops
Here we go again: a new survey about security and devices that is brought to you by a company with a vested interest in providing companies security for their devices. Nevertheless, it’s probably true that if you’re using a blackberry cell phone, Windows mobile phone or other smartphone for your work, you’re not using the same kinds of password protection you have for your company laptop. Credant, which provides “endpoint data security and encryption software,” surveyed 300 IT managers and found that most of them saw phones and PDA’s as bigger security threats than company-issued laptops. Los Angeles to sue Time Warner Cable over shoddy service
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 7:42AM Far from being the first time Time Warner Cable has upset its subscriber base, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office is pulling a Dee Snider and refusing to take the carrier’s lackluster service anymore. In a 25-page lawsuit, the city is alleging that the operator “caused major havoc and distress” two years ago when it “failed to live up to its part of the franchise cable agreement requiring that a company answer subscribers’ calls within 30 seconds and begin repairs of service interruptions within 24 hours of notification in 90% of its calls for service.” The suit claims that no more than 60% of customer calls were answered in time, and cable / internet service was said to be “so intermittent and inferior in quality that it was not much better than no service at all.” Not surprisingly, TWC representatives chose not to comment on the whole ordeal, but the outfit could face civil penalties of tens of millions of crisp US dollars in the case. Screen Grabs: Nokia’s XpressMusic 5610 causes Panic at the Disco
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 9:08AM Weird — doesn’t that shot above look scarily similar to this one? Okay, minus the coinage, paperwork and miniaturized human. (Read the full post about ‘Screen Grabs: Nokia’s XpressMusic 5610 causes Panic at the Disco’…)

Softbank 923SH Mobile Phone

Written by admin on Friday, June 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Softbank 923SH Mobile Phone
I have to admit that I am a fan of those types of phones like the Sidekick which can flip out their screens for a horizontal read. So I was naturally attracted to the 923SH, one of ten new phones to come out from Softbank. The first question I had to ask was how does the phone on the left fold up to the phone on the right? Clearly, Softbank has some folding technology that I do not know about. The display on the 923SH is something that we do know about. It uses Sharp’s unique AQUOS LCD panel, technology that we reported about with the SE94 Series. Clearly, this HDTV technology has somehow been miniaturized, and this display is capable of many, many colors. This phone is capable of recording video content. HDD Stage Rack evolves again: now holds twice the hard drives
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 6th 2008 at 11:10AM Oh, brother — here we go again. For the third time this year, the iconic HDD Stage Rack has evolved into something bigger, badder and more useful than the last edition. The latest version is dubbed the Double HDD Rack eSATA and USB, which predictably includes twice the slots for storing hard drives. Invaders disguised as Space Intruderz
Likely from the picture you spotted exactly what these little guys are right off the bat and if you didn’t then you’ve been living under a rock.  These cute little lamps in disguise under the name of Space Intruderz are quite obviously the classic Space Invaders.  Wouldn’t want any pesky issues with copyrights though, it’s not like we’ve seen any official Space Invaders in a while anyway.  These cute little lamps will let everyone know without a shadow of doubt you’re either living in the past or a hardcore gamer.
