The most successful applications are usually created out of a great need. That was the story behind the creation of a new browser called the ZAC Browser. The browser was created as a computer playground for Zackary who was diagnosed as severely autistic back in 2005. The ZAC Browser was built through the work of Zackary’s grandfather, John LeSieur, who is in the software business. LeSieur is also behind Kidz CD, an Internet browser which has been written for children of all ages which is also available for free at the Kidz CD website.

Upon playing with the first release of the Kidz CD browser, Zackary was found to have improvement in his violent behavior toward others as well as objects. This improvement and Zackary’s continued progress led to the creation of the ZAC Browser. Besides being named after Zackary, ZAC also stands for Zone for Autistic Children.

The ZAC browser is available with an installer or in a platform which can just be run. The ability to run the ZAC Browser without an installer makes it a portable solution which allows a child to have access to the browser from any computer. The browser is compatible with the Windows operating system, including Vista.

Brian’s Opinion

Being a parent of an autistic child I have to say that this browser is absolutely fantastic. My son is mildly autistic and has become a little bit of a computer and video game guru like Dad, but I can’t wait to show him the ZAC Browser. There’s no doubt in my mind that he will have hours of enjoyment as a result of it thanks to the ease it allows young children, especially those autistic, to browse media and content online.

Grandfathers are known to spoil their children. I think it has to do with a pledge you have to take when your grandchild is first born. There’s no better way to spoil a child then to write an application for them and then offer it to others named after them. Zackary must be tickled to know an application is named after him.

It was extremely generous for Zackary’s grandfather to share this browser with the world. I think it would have been kind of hard to have kept this browser to himself or to charge other parents of autistic children for it. Now, not only will Zackary continue to benefit, but other autistic children will as well thanks to a committed and loving grandfather.
