Review: Link Hydro Pack
One thing I learned in college was there was nothing better then a good and dependable backpack. If you’re an avid hiker or outdoors junkie then a solid backpack is also something you quickly learn is an essential tool to keep your items dry and your back from suffering. Even with this said, there is no rule that states you have to have just an ordinary backpack. If you are a gadget geek there’s no doubt that I have found the backpack for you. It’s the Link Hydro Pack by Skullcandy. Hydro as in water? The first cool feature in the Link Hydro Pack is a bladder which fits into a zipper pocket between the main compartment and the very back of the pack. Can MT9 be the next digital music format?

Written by admin on Monday, May 26th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

A new digital audio file format is aiming to change the way that we all listen to music. It’s being touted as a completely new form of music, and it’s called MT9. This is how it works: each MT9 file can be split into 6 different channels (one for each instrument or vocal track) and then each channel can be manually taken out as the listener deems fit. Want to learn how to play the lead guitar on “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots?” Take out all of the other instruments and listen to it with crystal clarity. Want to do your best Scarlett Johansson impression and sing Tom Waits all night?

Snap Capp

Written by admin on Monday, May 26th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

The Snap Capp is something very special, and yet is so simple. Simply put, the Snap Capp is “a plastic re-closable top designed to snap onto virtually all 12 and 16 ounce aluminum beverage cans”.

I would have to say that this product is a long time coming. After all, the pop-top can, portable and convenient as it is, has a lot of limitations. As soon as the top is open, you cannot close it, and so begins the exposure of your beverage to the elements.

You may have discovered this effect whenever you put a can of a carbonated drink in the fridge. The drink will stay cool, will completely lose all of its fizz.

SuperSmoker Smokeless Electronic Cigarette
Smokers are among the most persecuted demographics in America today. More and more states are passing laws daily to prohibit cigarettes inside public areas. While they might have a point about the second-hand health hazards and the customer complaints, what about the smoker’s needs? Smoking is an addiction. Once you pick up the addiction it’s hell to lose it. The SuperSmoker is a product that could help smokers rebel against the constant persecution by providing the same feel of lighting up a cancer stick, though totally smokeless and electronic. The SuperSmoker contains no tobacco, doesn’t need a lighter or any sort of flame to “light” up. (Read the full post about ‘SuperSmoker Smokeless Electronic Cigarette’…)

Ford Flex fridge + Ohio = license to DUI

Ford Flex fridge + Ohio = license to DUI
by Thomas Ricker, posted May 26th 2008 at 9:20AM The biggest problem with the mid-Western drive-thru isn’t the fact that you can readily purchase alcohol from the dank comforts of your old hoopdie, it’s the dilemma presented in keeping that beer-flavored soda chilled for duration. Enter the $760 fridge on Ford’s new Flex guzzler. The add-on drops up to seven, 12-oz cans of room-temp suds down to 41-degrees F in 2.5 hours. It’ll also keep things a frosty 23-degrees in freezer mode. (Read the full post about ‘Ford Flex fridge + Ohio = license to DUI’…)

Mars Phoenix lander has near-perfect landing, says “it’s really cold out here”
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted May 26th 2008 at 10:05AM Things are looking good for the Phoenix lander which touched down on Mars at 4:53pm on Sunday, May 25. The NASA nerds are reporting an almost perfect landing, with the spacebot tilted only one quarter of a degree. In fact, they’re claiming that this landing was “far smoother than any simulation or test that was ever done.” The lander’s north-pole location is measured at -106 degrees Fahrenheit and chock-full of life-preserving ice. Phoenix will chill on Mars for 90 days, sniffing soil and looking for frozen Martians in whatever form they may take. Now that Mars Oddyssey — one of its main communication uplinks — has passed over the lander, we have our first pictures, one of which is above. The Cast of M.A.S.H. Sells I.B.M.

The Cast of M.A.S.H. Sells I.B.M.
I don’t know why I never saw these commercials. As a kid, I LOVED M.A.S.H. and I loved computers. Of course, I was more of an Atari fan back then, but I would have loved to see my old friends together in these commercials. IBM hired the entire cast of M.A.S.H. to promote their new computer, the PS/2. Here are the commercials: I didn’t see a PS/2 until I got to high school. Our junior high was equipped with Ataris. I don’t know when they got an upgrade, but it was well after we left. By the time I got to use the IBM PS/2, it was very much like junior high. We were stacked three to four kids per computer. We learned to write letters on the computer using a new program called WordPerfect. (Read the full post about ‘The Cast of M.A.S.H. Sells I.B.M.’…)

Sun beats Microsoft to ODF compatibility in Office
Want to use MS Office to open and save ODF spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation documents, but don’t want to wait until 2009 to do it?  Sun has got you covered.  Microsoft recently announced that native ODF support would be coming to its popular Office 2007 productivity suite with the release of Service Pack 2, currently scheduled for early to mid 2009.  Users who either can not or do not wish to wait that long have an alternative though, and it comes from one of Microsoft’s chief competitors in the market for office productivity software: Sun Microsystems.
