Nanohealing substance stops bleeding in seconds, vampires protest
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted May 12th 2008 at 9:31AMWe may already have spray-on bandages, but Arch Therapeutics has developed a nanostructured substance that they say stops bleeding almost instantly. Originally developed at MIT, the material is awaiting FDA approval and could make its way into operating rooms soon. The liquid is made up of amino acids that form peptides and cluster into long fibers when exposed to salty environments, like, say, a whole bunch of blood. The material isn’t terribly new — it was originally discovered in the 90s, but only recently during an experiment did researchers realize that it would be great for blood control. Aircraft Parts Procurement
In a previos post I talked about the man who built a helicopter from old cars and motorbikes parts. If you have solid tech knowledge or you have a plane (great gadget to have) you will like today post. Although a lot of people consider Aircraft Parts hard to find, the situation is different. Finding any part for a plane is a easy job if you have internet access and patience. For maintenance and repair operations you can find thousands of Fasteners in online shops. The National Stock Number (NSN) and Manufacturing Part number cross reference searches let you quickly find and buy the part you need. Fasteners are a fundamental part of any vehicle; therefore, they should be incorporated in a design from the beginning to be a fully functional part of a platform. by Ryan Block, posted May 11th 2008 at 6:18PM Maybe our robo-challenges speak something to our respective histories: Americans have spent the last few years driving intelligent vehicles through vast expanses of desert, but over in Europe, scientists and technologists are preparing for this fall’s Microtransat, wherein machines must sail across the Atlantic propelled only by wind and artificial intelligence. Philadelphia’s citywide WiFi close to shutting down
by Darren Murph, posted May 10th 2008 at 11:48PM It’d be absolutely spectacular to actually see one of these admittedly ambitious municipal WiFi projects actually work out every now and then, but instead, we’re seeing the nails start to sink into yet another citywide WiFi coffin. This go ’round, the network blanketing most of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is on the verge of sending out its last signals unless the city can devise a plan in short order to take it over from EarthLink, who unsurprisingly wants out on the double. Portable HD Xbox Idea

Written by admin on Monday, May 12th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Fancy a portable Xbox? I’m sure many people have thought about it before, and it will really see Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony slug it out both in the living room as well as on the portable front. How would you like the portable Xbox to look like? There are several major pitfalls for the big M to look out for, and one of them would be the lack of connectivity. Microsoft’s Xbox Live is one of the biggest attractions to date, and has not seen any serious competition from either Sony or Nintendo, so that will be quite a problem unless WiMAX is rolled out extensively. Also, disc changing on the go just isn’t viable, so Microsoft will have to think of a way to circumvent this.

Terrafugia hopes to showcase drivable airplane this summer
by Darren Murph, posted May 10th 2008 at 9:35AM Make no mistake, Terrafugia’s outlandish airplane / motorcar hybrid has been on the drawing board for years, but it looks like the rubber is about to hit the proverbial road (or take to the skies, whichever) this July. A team of ten is working feverishly to ready the Transition for its debut at this year’s AirVenture, where it hopes to catch more than a few eyes with its zany “roadable aircraft.” As you can likely guess, this thing is meant to both fly and drive, and yes, that means it’ll have to pass safety regulations from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
