Apple Bumps iMac Specs
The Apple Store showed its familiar “Back Soon” sticky note this morning, and then popped back up with a shiny new selection of iMacs. The top of the line 24″ iMac now sports a 45nm 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo Penryn processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS with 512MB memory. Hard drive sizes range from 250GB to 500GB, all models contain a SuperDrive and all but the lowly 2.4 GHz, 20″ models get 2GB RAM as standard (the baby has to make do with just 1GB). All models still display the controversial “millions of colors”, if you feel like counting them. Prices still start at $1200 and top out at $2200. You can, of course, beef up the specs with custom options and arrive at $2650. (Read the full post about ‘Apple Bumps iMac Specs’…)

RIM Wants To Compete With iPhone

RIM Wants To Compete With iPhone
RIM apparently has a product in the making known as AK - which obviously enough, stands for “Apple Killer”. It will, of course be a touch screen device and RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis let fire his salvo, “I couldn’t type on [the iphone] and I still can’t type on it, and a lot of my friends can’t type on it. It’s hard to type on a piece of glass.” It would be interesting to see what kind of blackberry that will end up as. I know the consumers are just going to so love such competition. CES 2008: Optimus Maximus Keyboard

CES 2008: Optimus Maximus Keyboard
So much of what we see at CES is just vaporware. It doesn’t exist and it may never exist. In fact, after a healthy dose of CES, everything that IS available starts to look incredibly lame in comparison. The Optimus Maximus keyboard is a good example. Imagine a computer keyboard in which the keys can be WHATEVER you want. Instead of stickers on your keyboard (that would be MY solution), the Optimus Maximus keyboard has a tiny LED screen on each and every screen. You can change the keys based on your language or whatever other scheme you prefer. When we saw Optimus Maximus at CES this year, we thought it looked cool, but both Mike and I assumed that it would never see the light of day. We had seen this keyboard before and nothing had come of it. (Read the full post about ‘CES 2008: Optimus Maximus Keyboard’…)

Cool gadgets the laser pointers

Cool gadgets the laser pointers
A laser pointer is a small (often battery-operated) laser device designed for pointing at objects by illuminating them with a collimated visible laser beam. The typical use of a hand-held laser pointer is to point at some screen or chart during a presentation. The output power of a laser pointer is measured in milliwatts (mW). The laser pointer is generated by combining three different beams in three orthogonal transverse modes, two of them in a squeezed-vacuum state and one in an intense coherent field. A basic low power office type laser pointer is still clearly visible in a brightly lit room at distances over 100 feet. (Read the full post about ‘Cool gadgets the laser pointers’…)

Weekend Washbag - For Him
Weekend Washbag - For Him I’ve never done it myself, of course, but crashing out on the floor of a chum’s flat can be a soul-destroying experience, particularly if it’s on a school night and you find yourself facing a slog to work the next morning, unshaven, unkempt and reeking of stale cider. Second Galileo GPS satellite goes into orbit
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Apr 27th 2008 at 3:14PMFinally, the EU’s Giove-B GPS satellite was shot into space by the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Strapped atop a Soyuz-FG rocket, the Giove-B reached orbit at 8:01am this morning, and is the second satellite launched for the nascent next-generation European Galileo satellite navigation system. This particular model is kitted out with dual redundant rubidium atomic clocks that the ESA says are “the most accurate in space”. The next bird — just three of thirty — is slated to go up in 2010 with a full-system launch around 2013. (Read the full post about ‘Second Galileo GPS satellite goes into orbit’…)

Comparing the iPod Shuffle, Samsung S2, iriver MPlayer, Zen Stone
There are so many small MP3 players on the market today, most of which are pretty nice. This makes it hard to decide which one to choose, however, the good guys at Generation MP3 recently offered up a nice comparison chart to offer some comparison between four players that are currently on the market. The four MP3 players being compared include the iPod Shuffle, Samsung’s new S2, iriver’s MPlayer, and the Creative Zen Stone. All of these MP3 players are really good and they all come with their own unique features. Let the battle begin! 3G Blackberry Release Possibly Delayed
Fortune.com reports that Research In Motion and AT&T’s latest incarnation of the Blackberry, originally expected for release in June, may be facing delays due to an unspecified "tech glitch". It’s only a coincidence that this mysterious glitch has cropped up now, right? Sources close to RIM and AT&T have reportedly stated the delay is occurring to avoid the companies’ having to throw down with Apple’s latest offering to the gods of sleek gadgetry, expected to be released in June as well. A RIM spokeswoman abstained from commentary on the "rumors and speculation". (Read the full post about ‘3G Blackberry Release Possibly Delayed’…)
