Colorful, individual egg boilers by Eiko
I don’t know how long you have to boil an egg to make it soft or hard or somewhere in between, only that if I forget I’m boiling eggs long enough that the pot is dry of water when I get back to the kitchen, then the eggs are probably very well cooked and likely to be inedible. No, it’s never occurred to me to use an egg timer, even though I like my eggs soft-boiled and am really pickly about the degree of softness when I order at a restaurant. I love these egg boilers by Eiko enough to motivate me to learn the nuances of egg boiling (please, no snide comments about how painfully easy it is) so that I can make my eggs soft and my daughter’s eggs hard but not rubbery. Sony PS3 gets new Firmware Update

Sony PS3 gets new Firmware Update
There is a new firmware update in town coming your way for the PS3, and this is touted to be the best one yet. Sony will allow the PS3 to play BD-Live titles (also known as Blu-ray Profile 2.0), with additional content being made accessible via an Internet connection. Guess 50GB of storage space just isn’t enough to store other stuff like bonus and deleted scenes, shorts, trailers, subtitles, ringtones, and images among others. As for movie-based games like AvP which was showcased at CES 2008, that is also made available for those who have updated their PS3s. You will need to wait until later this month for this update to be released by Sony. Image courtesy of Gizmodo. (Read the full post about ‘Sony PS3 gets new Firmware Update’…)

Nokia’s Health guard

Nokia’s Health guard
It is quite an understandable fact that there is an obvious necessity to help the elderly. Due to their age they often get things wrong, so it’s almost impossible for them to do everything by themselves. Thus, all of us who do love them and want to keep them around for as long as possible try to use all the means in order to help them. With that in mind, the creators of the “Health Guard” concept for Nokia believe that the best way to keep them around is to track their every movement. The new gadget designed by Marcela Kawka and Izabela Cichecka represents a two-piece monitoring station that controls (via RFID - Radio Frequency Identification - a technology that uses tiny computer chips to track items such as consumer commodities at distance) what the elderly consume: expired foods, medicine, possible allergens and nutritional information. Gumball Machine Phone

Gumball Machine Phone
The Dubble Bubble gumball machine phone helps keep your kid occupied for a whole three seconds as a toy, but it can also be used as an actual phone. Whenever there is an incoming call, circus music will start playing while flashing lights get to work to add to the overall cheery atmosphere. In addition, a gumball will pop out as a Pavlovian reward, letting those with a sweet tooth to ask their friends to call them over and over again. $139 is a bit pricey for a novelty item like this, if you ask me. CardioNet Mobile Cardiac Recorder

CardioNet Mobile Cardiac Recorder
CardioNet has just introduced its Mobile Cardiac Telemetry Monitor Recorder that can be hooked up to the Internet, where doctors can then monitor patients 24/7 thanks to a tiny sensor worn by the patient as he/she resumes with a normal way of life. Whenever a notable event occurs, patient activity will be transmitted to the CardioNet Monitoring Center automatically for further analysis and an appropriate response. Daily reports are sent from the physician’s office to the patient’s home via Internet or fax. I wonder with introduction of devices such as this, will physicians and doctors be even more overwhelmed as they have more cases to keep track off even remotely? FCC does the Citi Phone

FCC does the Citi Phone
The FCC has made it known that a phone known as the Plus II from the Citi brand (manufactured by Mobicom) actually exists on this terra firma. Thing is, will this be one of those banking handsets from Citibank since it features NFC technology that could be used to make mobile payments? Never mind that - what’s more important is the nitty gritty on some of its specifications :- Dual-band 850/1900 GSM candybar handset Navigation buttons in place of numeric keypad MP3 playback capability Accelerometer for faster scrolling NFC technologyNo idea on when this will be available to the shopping-hungry masses though. Wow, that’s a nice chunk of change. Included in the list of big names bidding for some of the spectrum that comes up for grabs once broadcasters give it up as they go digital, are Google, AT&T and Verizon. In case you forgot about this, last year Google influenced (in a good way) the auction rules convincing the FCC that winners of the spectrum open up their networks to a wider range of equipment, apps and in particular, standards.
