Astro Systems DM-3400

Don’t be too smug with your HDTV just yet - the Astro Systems DM-3400 could be the future even as America starts to warm up to high definition TVs. This 56″ behemoth looks like a standard LCD display at first glance, but it actually offers 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, making it meant to be used in digital cinemas, editing studios and broadcast facilities. Features include a quartet of DV-D inputs and an equal amount of HD-SDI inputs. There is no word on pricing as at press time, but one thing’s for sure - this ain’t no living room solution and will probably remain the domain of professionals in the meantime. Video: Hands On With ARM’s Android Googlephone

Written by admin on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Some might say it is a touch Kindle-like. We say well done to ARM for squeezing its Android Googlephone into a box the size of a phone rather than a sprawling mess of chips. Check the video, fresh from GSMA, to see a demo of Google Maps, video playback and recording, the music player and the menus. It actually looks pretty slick.

Sprint PHS300 Personal Hotspot USB device
Create your own hotspot with the Sprint PHS300 Personal Hotspot USB device. Developed by Cradlepoint, this nifty little gizmo automatically starts an EV-DO to WiFi hotspot right in your pocket - all you need to do is plug in your Sprint EV-DO card to the USB port and voila, you open the doors to welcome up to four simultaneous clients via WiFi. An 1,800mAh battery will definitely go some distance before requiring a recharge, although there are no official figures yet. Sounds like the perfect device to carry around in next year’s edition of CES instead of paying through the nose for a hotel connection. Man arrested at gunpoint for using MP3 player
Posted Feb 13th 2008 11:08AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Portable Audio Next time you’re reaching down for that ipod or Zune (or anything else for that matter), take care that you don’t alarm the authorities with any suspicious movements — or you could end up like the UK’s Darren Nixon. Apparently, the mild-mannered mechanic was on his way home from work when the Bobbies surrounded him and drew their guns, believing that the mp3 player in his pocket was a firearm. According to the Daily Mail, Mr. Nixon was tracked on CCTV, arrested at gunpoint, swabbed for DNA, fingerprinted, and thrown in a cell — all for listening to a bootleg of Chinese Democracy on a 4GB Philips GoGear. Whale Shark gets black box flight recorders

The whale shark is the largest species of shark in the world, and its mysterious life will be available to all and sundry to see for the first time once they are equipped with the equivalent of “black box flight recorders” by researchers. This project came into being as a result of a collaboration between both Laureates of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise – Australian Brad Norman and Briton Rory Wilson. The former was the first in the world to set up a photo-ID system for identifying whale sharks while the latter successfully developed most sophisticated device for monitoring the activity of animals in the wild in the world. Fujitsu P8010 Squeezes 12-Inch Display into Subnotebook Form Factor
Fujitsu makes them in every size, and the P8010 fits neatly between its tiny tablets and its appealing 13.3" models — yep, it’s another subnotebook, showing off some neat features uncommon to the niche. Most striking is the thin screen bezel, just like it’s big brother, the 14-inch S6510. Edge-to-edge displays are a rarity on portable notebooks: even Apple’s macbook air has an Eee-like plastic frame around its panel. In the flesh, it means that the P8010 gets a 12-inch display into a case almost as small Fujitsu’s 10-inch subnotebook, the P7230. It also comes with a little 3-inch deep "port bar" that adds 4 USB slots, wired ethernet, DVI and VGA. Waffle hot dog on a stick

Waffle hot dog on a stick
I’ve seen lots of food on sticks at county fairs and Renaissance festivals, including corn dogs, steaks, frozen cheesecake (did they eat cheesecake during the Renaissance?), and kebabs of all varieties, but never have I wished to prepare food on a stick in the comfort of my own kitchen. And of all the food combinations I’ve thought of, a hot dog on a waffle has never occurred to me (though I have seen fried chicken on waffles, something that still boggles my mind). But now that I’ve seen this little appliance for making hot dogs surrounded by waffle on a stick (or crepe dogs, more traditional corn dogs, or just about anything that will cook on a grill and hold itself on a stick), I want to have a “food on a stick” party. Sure, we understand the pink decor, magazines and other frilly paraphernalia, but the guy version of this “pimp my bathroom” setup had a television about four times the size of this dainty little number.
