What’s an iPhone? 14.3m Windows Mobile phones sold in the past six months alone
Posted Feb 11th 2008 2:31PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: CellphonesThere might be a world of iPhone hype out there, but if there’s anything Microsoft knows how to do, it’s fight back with sheer brutal volume — and it looks like the WinMo juggernaut is just getting warmed up, with sales of 14.3m units worldwide in the past six months. Hands-on with LG’s QWERTY clamshell, the KT610
Posted Feb 11th 2008 7:51AM by Sean CooperFiled under: Cellphones We had no luck getting pics of this guy last night, but yahoo, we had a chance to play today. Putting the KT610 through its paces — albeit in a crazy fast way — we were completely underwhelmed by the interface speed and the screen, when open, is in a pretty odd position to actually read. Aside from those little details, this is a pretty slick little handset, here’s hoping they sort the hardware to give it a little speed boost. Yahoo! officially spurns Microsoft’s advances
Posted Feb 11th 2008 10:25AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Misc. Gadgets Just in case you misunderstood the news from Yahoo!, they don’t want Microsoft’s money, help, time, or friendship. Officially. In a somewhat related story, Jerry Yang says he’s also not interested in a week-long round of brunching with Steve Ballmer. No word yet on whether he’s game for a dinner date and coffee with Sergey Brin.Tags: camera, lcd, gps, DVD (Read the full post about ‘Yahoo! officially spurns Microsoft’s advances’…)

Starbucks gets hot with AT&T; ciao T-Mobile

Starbucks gets hot with AT&T; ciao T-Mobile
Got a Starbucks gift card?  Bam, you’ll get 2 free hours of WiFi at Starbucks soon.  AT&T DSL customers will soon be able to sip lattes and surf for free as Starbucks just announced it will be switching WiFi services at its 7000 locations in the US.  Holders of paid subscriptions to T-Mobiles service will still be able to access the WiFi at Starbucks, thanks to some hearty negotiations.  The AT&T rollout will begin this spring. This makes some sense for Starbucks as they have worked to partner with Apple on iTunes and there was the rumor of a iPhone/touch ordering system that may or may not be still in the works. Microsoft buys Danger, Windows Mobile Sidekick imminent
Posted Feb 11th 2008 10:43AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Cellphones Sure, the folks in Redmond didn’t get their grubby mitts on Yahoo! (yet), but at least they picked up a little something for their mobile division, namely: Danger. According to news just crossing the wires, the monolithic company has picked up the Sidekick-creators for an undisclosed amount, and will subsequently fold the phone-maker into its mobile wing. Is there a Windows Mobile version of the Hiptop in our future? Survey says yes.Tags: buyers guides, mobiles, toys, hdtv (Read the full post about ‘Microsoft buys Danger, Windows Mobile Sidekick imminent’…)

ACCESS Linux Platform gets integrated with MontaVista Mobilinux
Posted Feb 11th 2008 12:49PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Cellphones Look out, world — ACCESS has just announced that it’s crawling even deeper in bed with MontaVista Software in order to “accelerate development of smart mobile devices.” More specifically, the two have released a “pre-integrated software stack combining the ACCESS Linux Platform with the MontaVista Mobilinux operating system,” which should purportedly hack down the engineering time required for DIY integration along with decreasing “associated costs and risks.” Reportedly, the ALP-Mobilinux software stack is up for grabs right now on the Texas Instruments OMAP2430 processor, and while specifics are unfortunately absent, we are told that additional hardware platforms will be added in the months ahead.Tags: gadgetry, tests, robots, gps (Read the full post about ‘ACCESS Linux Platform gets integrated with MontaVista Mobilinux’…)

Microsoft releases Outlook 2007 standalone

Written by admin on Monday, February 11th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

In a first for the application, Microsoft released a standalone version of Outlook. In the past, the e-mail application has always come as part of the different versions of the Office suite. If you wanted just an e-mail client, then you had to look to other companies or to Microsoft’s Outlook Express and Windows Mail for Vista.

Microsoft said the standalone release is in response to customer demand. Takeshi Numoto, general manager of Microsoft Office 2007, said:

Currently, many small and home-based businesses keep their contacts in several different places — some in [their address books], some in spreadsheets.
