USB Athletes Hub with 4 ports

USB Athletes Hub with 4 ports
In nowadays most people look for gadgets that also have quality in terms of design, and that is probably the reason why there are a million of USB hubs, with different shapes and colors, right? I’d give the Athletes Hub a rating of 4 out of 5, just because of the originality. The hub comes with 4 ports placed in different sections: base, arm, foot, and lastly, the special USB port that can swivel 180 degrees and is located on the bag. The athlete shaped hub is available in black or silver, and costs $12. Product Page Tags: M4A, wi-fi, home cinema, digital (Read the full post about ‘USB Athletes Hub with 4 ports’…)

WiFi Detecting T-Shirt

Over here at Coolest Gadgets, we’ve covered the Animated WiFi Detector Shirt last October, and that offering was from ThinkGeek which retailed for $29.99. It came in a cool black shade of various sizes, and is powered by a trio of AAA batteries. Today, we have from Firebox a WiFi Detecting T-Shirt that basically does the same thing as described in the product description right after the jump. As its name suggests, this hi-tech garment lets you know when you’re in a WiFi zone by graphically displaying the WiFi connections floating around the vicinity. Glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the signal strength fluctuates. Clever, eh? (Read the full post about ‘WiFi Detecting T-Shirt’…)

MacBook Air SSD and Battery Benchmarked

MacBook Air SSD and Battery Benchmarked
The Wall Street Journal benchmarked the solid state drive (SDD) of the MacBook Air against the hard disk drive (HDD) version. Unlike what one would expect, the battery life is only 5 minutes higher. When it comes to boot-up time, the SDD performs 40% faster, but given that the HDD boots in less than a minute, so the perceived gains aren’t worth the extra cost. Anantech did benchmark the battery, and here are the raw results: WiFi browsing + music: 4.27hrs DVD playback: 3.42hrs Xvid playback+ web browsing + heavy file download: 2.43hrs It’s actually pretty good in my opinion. my Vaio SZ dies a lot faster than that, regardless of what I do. Turn your rear view mirror into a DVR

Turn your rear view mirror into a DVR

I’ve seen my fair share of fender-benders, so I’m familiar with that feeling of dread when I realize that no one witnessed the crash. This of course means it’s going to be your word against the other guy’s, and that’s never fun. I’ve been tempted to pick up a camera for my car so that I can have video proof the next time someone decides to pull out right in front of me. I just haven’t found the right one for the job. So far, I’d have to say that this one from Brick House looks the most tempting. The Rear View Mirror Car Camera Recorder Pro beats out the competition for having the most obnoxiously long name, if nothing else. (Read the full post about ‘Turn your rear view mirror into a DVR’…)

Modu Announces Phone Jackets

Modu Announces Phone Jackets
Isreali company Modu is set to launch its modular (get it?) cellphone in October. The Modu is a core device which will be sold along with “jackets”, slide on covers which will offer extra functionality. The idea is that you have one device and then customize it depending on what you’re doing and where you are. For instance, you can slot it into a computer to load it with music, dock it into a car stereo or slide it into a camera. Modu has attracted a lot of interest already. It’s backed by SanDisk, and Universal Music want to make music jackets for the phone. Not surprising: Modu founder Dov Moran has a pretty good track record. Danish Cops Flummoxed by Internet, Wifi and iMacs
We have a sneaking feeling that law enforcement officers might not have the same understanding of technology as you, Gadget Lab reader. This hilarious case from blogger Rottin’ in Denmark tells a story of the astounding ineptitude of Danish police when confronted by 1. The internet, 2. An iMac and 3. WiFi. This wouldn’t be so bad, but the cops had come a-knockin’ to investigate computer crime.According to the blog post, the Police made a dawn house call to investigate a suspicious credit card transaction made over the writer’s open WiFi network. Police [Doughface]: We traced the transaction back to the wireless network in this apartment.Rottin in Denmark [Me]: But we have an open wireless connection. Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?
Posted Feb 7th 2008 8:46AM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Cellphones We’ve never really understood the luxury cellphone market, but color us flat-out confused (and nauseated) by Givori’s latest ultra-high-end handset, the Serendipity. We’re not certain what upgrades you get over a standard Nokia N76 for the $3,077 asking price, but let us just suggest that you save the money and hand your existing phone off to a kid with a Bedazzler. No one will know the difference.[Via Luxurylaunches]Tags: Gadget, wireless, pvr, equipment (Read the full post about ‘Is the Givori Serendipity the world’s ugliest cellphone?’…)

Toshiba updates Gigabeat lineup from obscure to niche
Posted Feb 7th 2008 5:42AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Portable Audio, Portable Video There was a time not too long ago when Microsoft and Toshina seemed poised to make the Gigabeat a household name. That all changed when Microsoft killed PMC and then blazed a manufacturing trail of its own with the second generation Zune. Nevertheless, Toshiba trudges on with enhancements to their Gigabeat U-, V-, and T-series of audio and video players. The ¥34,800 V81 doubles the flash to 8GB while tweaking the 1Seg recording capabilities. The ¥15,800 U407 and U408 are just 4GB updates to their 1GB/2GB sibs while sporting an enhanced GUI. Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider
Another day another leaked image, this time its the upcoming Motorola M990 Smart Rider. The info is courtesy of the FCC and it shows off a phone with a unique name and purpose. According to the details the Motorola M990 will be called the Smart Rider and will be a “GSM high tier fixed mobile car phone.” The thought of a phone that is limited to a car sounds really funny these days, but the specs make it sound almost like a normal mobile phone. Based on the FCC’s “Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Report” the Smart Rider offers “not only voice but also high speed data services, entertainment, information, advanced network connection, BT connections, GPS navigation services, etc. (Read the full post about ‘Leaked image: Motorola M990 Smart Rider’…)
