VuPoint 35mm Film Scanner to Digitize Old Film and Slides

If you’re like me, you have taken photographs with film cameras and have tons of negatives cluttering up your photo boxes. Or what happens when you find a box of old slides in your parent’s or grandparent’s attic and you can’t view these photos? I had that happen to me once and the process of going out, finding a service who can scan in slides and negatives is a time-intensive and very expensive process - and you’re at the whim of the people who run the service. The National Geographic store is selling the VuPoint 35mm Film Scanner. Now you can scan your negative and slides to digital files quickly and easily so you can share them with others on online services (like Flickr) and email or print them on your PC. Sprint has Unlimited Everything for $119 per Month
Sprint was not doing so well recently and has come up with a new plan to attract heavy users: it will provide everything (voice, data, email, text, MMS) for $119 a month, creating a worry-free, but somewhat expensive plan. Windows Mobile users might rejoice, but you should know that there is an additional Blackberry fee, in case you wonder. Would you be interested in this plan? What feedback would you give to Sprint? Canon iVIS FS10 Camcorder
Canon has just launched its iVIS FS10 camcorder that relies on dual flash memory to store recorded videos in Japan. Tipped to be released at the end of April, the iVIS FS10 will come with 8GB of internal flash memory and an SDHC memory card slot, allowing you to have a potential storage space of 40GB (assuming you pop in one of those newfangled 32GB SDHC cards). Other features include a 48X Advanced zoom lens, a 1.07M CCD sensor and a 2.7″ widescreen LCD display. Battery life currently stands at 5 hours of recording, although I’d say that a realistic figure would probably be an hour less than the one stated. AT&T’s 2008 plans include 80 new cities with 3G, HSUPA network
Posted Feb 6th 2008 11:26AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Cellphones, WirelessKind of makes those New Years resolutions of yours seem a bit silly now, but AT&T has some high hopes for 2008. While it mulls its own 700MHz options and leaves the C block to the likes of Verizon, the company plans to build out its 3G network into 80 more cities, which boosts the number to 350 “leading” markets in the US, a rollout AT&T has been sluggish to compete with Verizon and Sprint on. AT&T also pledges to complete its HSUPA network by the middle of the year for speedier uploads. (Read the full post about ‘AT&T’s 2008 plans include 80 new cities with 3G, HSUPA network’…)

Duke Nukem Forever coming in 2008!

Written by admin on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Duke Nukem Forever may not be vaporware. It looks like the game that’s been baking for a dozen or so years will finally see a release after all. And if the Dallas Business Journal can be trusted, it will be out this very year.

According to an e-mail exchange between the newspaper and the President of 3D Realms, the title is likely to hit in late 2008, but it might miss by a couple months. It’s also expected to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, although that is still unofficial.

It also seems as if the original Duke Nukem will find its way onto Xbox Live Arcade sometime this year.

My immediate reaction to all things Duke Nukem is unbridled excitement.

The Spice Gun Packs a Piquant Punch

The Spice Gun Packs a Piquant Punch
Despite its name, the Spice Gun is not a clever new weapon to dispatch 1990s Girl Bands. Instead, it is a concept delivery system for seasonings.Three chambers in the barrel hold your choice of spices and pumping the trigger compresses air in the handle. Press the nub on the back to release, spraying spice onto the previously bland plate of food. We expect it to be horribly impractical in use, but who cares? Cooking was never so much fun.Product page [Design Boom via Engadget] Tags: amps, digital, Gadget, buyers guides (Read the full post about ‘The Spice Gun Packs a Piquant Punch’…)

Almost a quarter of households have DVR

Written by admin on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Ah, the average American household. A TV in every living room. Of course, this is accompanied by a VCR and DVD player. Now it seems that increasingly the digital video recorder (DVR) is becoming a standard piece of electronics in the home as well. According to a Los Angeles Times piece based on Nielsen Media Research data, 22% of homes now have a DVR. That’s up a 2% increase from a year ago.

More impressive was the number of 18-34 year old adults who used DVR’s, the Internet, video on demand and video media players to follow their favorite television series. That was an impressive 56%.

Zippo Blu Reinvents Fire

Written by admin on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

Zippo Blu Reinvents Fire
It might be a stretch to call the Zippo the Leica of the lighter world, but both companies have long pedigrees and an almost fanatical dedication to not changing. Leica finally went digital with the M8, but kept the Leica look and feel. Now Zippo has entered the 21st century in the same way with the Zippo Blu.The Blu’s name comes from the color of the flame, which is fueled by butane instead of liquid lighter fluid, but otherwise all the Zippo hallmarks are intact: The flint wheel ignition, the hinged lid and, most importantly, the Zippo click. As a sometime cigar smoker, I’d never use a regular Zippo, but the Blu’s flame is flavor-free so it won’t taint my Havanas. (Read the full post about ‘Zippo Blu Reinvents Fire’…)
