MacBook Pro Woes: What Should I Do? [Buyer’s Remorse]

MacBook Pro Woes: What Should I Do? [Buyer’s Remorse]
Alright, so I was fairly impressed with the Macworld keynote. Lots of neat little bits, and the MacBook Air is a pretty amazing sliver of a machine. But it’s not what many of us had hoped for. All I really wanted for Macworld was a 13-inch MacBook Pro. A serious but compact workhorse, not a sexy will-o-the-wisp. And now I’m too scared to even buy the current 15-inch MacBook Pro. Why? Because the MacBook Air’s coolest feature—other than its anorexia—is the multitouch trackpad, and Jobs knows it will probably pop up in a MacBook Pro refresh in just a few months. It’s a simple formula: Multitouch trackpad + green components + PowerBook-like black keyboard + redesigned case = dream machine. (Read the full post about ‘MacBook Pro Woes: What Should I Do? Nokia closing German plant, slashing up to 2,300 jobs

Nokia closing German plant, slashing up to 2,300 jobs
Posted Jan 15th 2008 5:27PM by Chris ZieglerFiled under: CellphonesDespite some encouraging financials out of Espoo as of late, Nokia is looking to cut costs and slim down in its effort to keep its paws firmly around the coveted title of number one cellphone manufacturer in the world. Its Bochum, Germany plant bears the brunt of this round of belt tightening, which will be closed by mid-2008; all told, a total of 2,300 jobs may be cut in the process. Nokia is smack in the middle of migrating some of its production capabilities to cheaper countries, with a Romanian plant — which costs one-tenth to operate what a German plant does, apparently — taking on much of the load. Gin and Tonic Fog Will Get You Drunk, I Think [Drunken Haze]

Gin and Tonic Fog Will Get You Drunk, I Think [Drunken Haze]
Like being drunk but hate drinking? Well, why drink? At the GAT FOG exhibition that took place way back in 2004 (we just found out about it, OK?), there was a contraption set up in a big room that pumped out Gin and Tonic fog. Yes, seriously. This insanely dangerous sounding experience was “art,” apparently. Would inhaling gin fog get you drunk? Would inhaling tonic fog give you lung cancer? Would you leave completely sticky and smelling like a hobo? I’m not sure, and I don’t think I want to find out. I swear that when I did the image for Variety’s report on HD DVD defections I never saw this hilarious version of Der Untergang, subtitled with very funny dialog about the last minutes of HD DVD in the bunker, the inevitable end of the war. The best part: probably when everyone leaves the room and the premonitory—and obvious—dig at Paramount and Universal.

Philips Patents Expressive Pen that Writes Out Your Mood [Patent]
The designers at Philips have been busy “emotionizing” their products, what with the cuddly Aurea TVs, and their emotional reactive jewelry. Now they have got designs on the humble pen, with a patented invention for a writing implement that actually records the mood of the writer while they’re writing stuff. Its finger contact sensors detect give-aways like heartbeat, skin temperature and the pressure you exert on pen and paper, which it then uses to actually morph the look of the ink stroke: While a biro may be a fantastic at scribbling notes, Philips thinks that they can actually increase your self-expression with this device. Resistance: Fall of Man sequel in the works

Written by admin on Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 in devices and gadgets.

One of the premier first-person shooters to come out for the PlayStation 3 was Resistance: Fall of Man. The title offered an adventure where World War II never happened, but instead Earth was invaded by a hostile race called the Chimera. Although it wasn’t a Halo killer, it has sold over 791,000 units, according to figures provided by NPD. With sales figures like that, it should be no surprise a sequel is in the works.

According to Game Informer Magazine, the developers at Insomniac Games are in the process of developing a sequel for Resistance: Fall of Man.
